Sad News for Badger Recruit John Clay

Badger Fans who were eager to see Freshman John Clay suit up in the Red & White will have to wait until the 2008 season.
Clay, a former all-state performer for Racine Park High School and a key member of the UW's 2007 freshman class, has failed to meet the NCAA's minimum academic eligibility standards and won't be allowed to play this season.
Under NCAA rules, Clay will not be allowed to practice with the team in 2007-'08 or receive athletic aid and will lose a year of eligibility. He can regain that lost year of eligibility, however. To do that, he must complete 80% of his designated degree program by the beginning of his fifth academic year. I hope he can pull it together to be a Badger that the entire state of Wisconsin can be proud of. GO BUCKY!!!!!!!!!!

Sad news for Badger fans, yes. For John Clay, no. Every athlete who comes to UW is made aware of the expectations for participation in athletics, and Clay missed the mark. Now he has a lot of hard work ahead of him.

Don't feel bad for John Clay. He knew what he had to do and he didn't do it.
