Time For March Madness

March Madness kicks off this weekend and, as a delicious appetizer, the Badgers begin their Big Ten tournament Friday against Ohio State.
Just two years ago, Wisconsin and Ohio State found themselves battling in the Big Ten title game. Now the Badgers head into the tournament as the fourth seed and Ohio State follows as the fifth. The Big Ten enjoyed a significant increase in competitiveness from top to bottom over the last couple months, and every team, especially this year, has a shot at the championship.
The Badgers’ 85-61 victory over Indiana last Sunday showed a surprising outburst of offense, which could prove useful against the Buckeyes. In their only meeting this season, Wisconsin crawled to a 24-23 lead over Ohio State at half and managed to hold them off in the second half, winning 55-50.
Although Wisconsin allowed Ohio State to shoot 55 percent from the field, they managed to keep the Buckeyes’ scoring down. A key to the game for the Badgers was forcing 19 turnovers. Assistant coach Gary Close said they don’t focus on creating turnovers, but heads-up interior defense can put pressure on the other team.
I sure hope Bucky can pull it off on Friday so I have a reason to go to a bar at noon on Saturday. That would make my weekend. GO BUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!

Evridge First Lefty QB In 44 Years.

During Wisconsin’s 38-17 win against Akron Saturday, an interesting thing happened. It wasn’t a new multi-million dollar addition to Camp Randall Stadium, brand new black and white home uniforms or even an original cheer by the student section.
As soon as the starting lineups were called, and fifth-year senior Allan Evridge’s name flashed across the scoreboard, he became the first left-handed quarterback to start at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 44 years. It has not been since the 1964 season, in which Harold Brandt played signal caller for the Cardinal and White, that Wisconsin has had a south-paw under center. I would imagine with a left handed QB makes it interesting for the coaches and the running backs who are used to a right handed QB. By the way, I am so glad the Big Ten Network worked out a deal with Time Warner. It improves the quality of my life. GO BUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking Forward To The Badger Spartan Matchup

I sure am looking forward to watching the Badger Basketball game on ESPN 2 tonight. It would be impossible for me to express how happy I am that the game is not on the F***ING Big Ten Network. I know I have discussed this before but the amount or irritation that network causes me is indescribable. At least once the NCAA Tournament starts it will be on CBS in HD the way it should be. GO BUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another Border Battle

Coming off a dramatic win at Indiana Wednesday night, the men’s basketball team returns home to host Minnesota at the Kohl Center on Feb. 16. Saturday’s game will tip off at 1 p.m. CT and will be shown live on the Big Ten Network as well as broadcast on affiliates of the Badger Radio Network.
The Badgers are 20-4 overall and 10-2 in the Big Ten, currently sitting in second place. The Gophers are 15-8 overall and 5-6 in the league. UM leads the all-time series 97-87, but the Badgers beat the Gophers at Williams Arena back on Feb. 3 and have won 12 of the last 13 meetings.
On a side note let me revisit a small fact that I mentioned earlier, that the game will be shown on the Big Ten Network. I HATE THAT I CAN'T WATCH THE GAME AT HOME BECAUSE I HAVE TIME WARNER CABLE AND I LIVE IN GREEN BAY MOTHERFUCKING WISCONSIN. Excuse me if some of you are offended but it irratates me so that I feel like going ballistic. I already pay almost $100 per month for HD Digital cable. I don't care if you have to charge me more money just get it on cable. I'm sure that is enough of a rant for everyone involved. GO BUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
