2015 NCAA Bowl Game Predictions | Badgers Head to Holiday Bowl

2015 Bowl Game List
Yes, that's right, the NCAA Bowl Game season is upon us. That mean's it's time for 37 million pointless college football games before the two that matter on New Years Eve. Let's look at some of the notable ones.

Foster Farms Bowl, UCLA vs. Nebraska- Nebraska had a tough grind this season to get to a bowl game. UCLA features the best freshman in the country in QB Josh Rosen. This one is a win for the Bruins 34-20.

Military Bowl, Pittsburgh vs. Navy- The Panthers were once in the outside mix for the college football playoffs. Navy has one of it's best teams ever. This is going to be a cakewalk for the Midshipmen, 41-17.

Armed Forces Bowl, California vs. Air Force- This will be your last chance to see Jared Goff play a college football game. Goff is a potential first overall draft choice. The Golden Bears win this one 45-24.

Russell Athletic Bowl, North Carolina vs. Baylor- If you didn't know what was going on with Baylor this season, you would think this was the matchup of the bowl season. However, the Bears are down to their 27th or whatever it is string quarterback and are facing a red hot Tar Heel team that almost stunned Clemson in the ACC championship Tar Heels win this game 52-24.

Holiday Bowl, USC vs. Wisconsin- In the past, the Holiday Bowl has been one of the highest scoring contests of the bowl season. That isn't happening this time around though. The Badgers are beyond lousy on offense and most Badgers fans can't wait to get Joel Stave out of town. USC wins this one easily 31-6.

Peach Bowl, Florida State vs. Houston- Cougars QB Greg Ward is one of the most dynamic players in the nation, and leads Houston to a semi-upset in this game 38-30.

Citrus Bowl, Michigan vs. Florida- In his first season in Ann Arbor, Jim Harbaugh has the Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl, a pretty solid feat. This one is going to be a defensive war, with the Wolverines winning 17-10.

Fiesta Bowl, Notre Dame vs. Ohio State- This is my personal least favorite of the New Years Six but I will take the Buckeyes in this game 24-13.

Rose Bowl, Stanford vs. Iowa- “Ohhhh Yeaaaaa” this is going to be as pro-style of a game as you will see at the collegiate level. These two teams are going to beat the crap out of each other for 60 minutes with Stanford willing 23-16.

Sugar Bowl, Oklahoma State vs. Mississippi- The Cowboys are hot, and win this one 48-31.

College Football Playoffs | The Biggest Bowl Games of 2014

NCAA 2015 Bowl Games
Over the last several weeks, I have previewed the various NCAA Football bowl games. Now it is time to preview the inaugural college football playoffs. The first game will be the Rose Bowl and it will feature Oregon vs. Florida State. The second game will be the Sugar Bowl and it will feature Alabama vs. Ohio State.

Oregon vs. Florida State- Remember the 2006 Rose Bowl when Vince Young made all those millions of dollars he got from the NFL in one game, the Rose Bowl, in which he had 467 yards from scrimmage and no turnovers? Well many consider that game to be perhaps the greatest college football game ever played. This one won’t top it, but it will come very close. Florida State has  the nationals longest winning streak, with 27 in a row dating back to 2012. Jameis Winston has yet to lose a game as the starting quarterback of Florida State. Still, Florida State has lived dangerously all season, falling behind often and needing second half comebacks to remain undefeated. Bad news is that won’t work in this game. Oregon is better than any opponent they have faced in the ACC this season. Marcus Mariota won the Heisman, and is the number one player on every NFL big board right now for the 2015 NFL draft. I believe the living dangerously finally comes back to bite Florida State, and Oregon wins this game 45-31.

Alabama vs. Ohio State- What a ride 2014 has been for the Buckeyes. They had dreams of a national championship with Braxton Miller as the quarterback. Yeah, that was two quarterbacks ago. Miller was lost for the season during Fall camp, so the Buckeyes turned to freshman J.T. Barrett. After that early season debacle against Virginia Tech, Barrett got better as the season went along, but was lost for the season late in the year with a leg injury. The Buckeyes now turn to Cardale Jones, who has just one career start. Meanwhile the Crimson Tide have been less than impressive all season and are the number one team by default. If this is the best team in college football this season this is a down year, seriously. Still, I expect Alabama to win this game 41-20.

National Championship- This leaves us will Alabama and Oregon in the National Championship. Some might say this will be a good game, but to tell you the truth, I won’t expect it to be. In recent years, whenever that great Alabama defense has played a quarterback with a pulse, they’ve looked bad. Well guess what, it doesn’t get any better at quarterback than Marcus Mariota. I think this one is going to be a blow out. Final score Oregon wins 48 24.

NCAA Top 25 for October 2014 | Mississippi State Hits The Top Spot

NCAA top 25
Time now for my NCAA top 25 rankings. If I can pat myself on the back, I told you so about Mississippi state. Will Florida State keep their lofty rankings by winning big? Will will Wisconsin come back on this list? Who knows. Meanwhile, we're looking forward to seeing who wins this week.

1. Mississippi State- I called it, boy did I call it. Now Gators fans are calling for Florida to hire Dan Mullen as the new head coach.
  2. Mississippi- If Mississippi State has the best resume in America, their in-State counterparts have the second best resume.
  3. Florida State- Needs to make a statement this weekend against Notre Dame
  4. Baylor- In prime position to win the Big 12 after that wild finish against TCU
  5. Auburn- They now find themselves out of the playoff at the moment after the fiasco this weekend against Mississippi State
  6. Notre Dame- Loser in the Florida State –Notre Dame game this weekend falls out of the National Championship picture.
  7. Oregon- They will win the Pac-12 as a consolation prize
  8. Michigan State- They almost pulled the “oops” game last weekend.
  9. Marshall- The quietest unbeaten left.
10. Alabama- I’m not impressed with the Tide this season at all. If Brandon Allen’s arm was a little stronger, they would have lost again last weekend.
11. Georgia- The Bulldogs keep on trucking along.
12 TCU- Well it was fun while it lasted.
13. Arizona- The luck finally ran out for the luckiest team in America..
14. Oklahoma- This appears to be another dull season for the Sooners and yet another Fiesta Bowl invite.
15. Washington- First place in the Pac-12 is on the line this weekend against Oregon.
16. Ohio State- Here come the Buckeyes. They might just pull this off after all.
17. Kansas State- Will probably have to settle for the Cotton Bowl.
18. Georgia Tech- Needs to get back on tract after the Duke loss.
19. Nebraska- They are gunning for either the Rose Bowl or the Capital One Bowl at this point
20. Duke- Probably the one of the stories of the season so far. This Duke team is 5-1.
21. Minnesota- In prime position to win the Big Ten right now.
22. Oklahoma State- this may be the quietest team in the country right now.
23. Rutgers- Not much to say about this team.
24. East Carolina- A lot of offense, and no defense.
25. Kentucky- 5-1 right now, which is why I rank them.

Montee Ball named Badger athlete of the year

No. 1: Montee Ball, junior running back, football
It’s easy to forget that Montee Ball wasn’t the Badgers’ featured back at the beginning of the 2011 season. Heck, more fans probably saw him as a true No. 2 than a true No. 1. To be fair, the lightning-quick James White—reigning Big Ten freshman of the year—was a pretty good bet in August.
But nobody had seen what Ball did in the offseason. Nobody had seen the transformation, the weight lost and the muscle built and the mindset hardened. By the time the Rose Bowl ended late Jan. 2, though, 14 opponents—the whole nation, really—had gotten a pretty good look.
The Wentzville, Mo. native scored touchdowns like his offensive linemen eat dinner: two, three and four helpings at a time.
He scored multiple touchdowns in every game but the Rose Bowl. He finished with 33 on the ground and 39 in total. Since scoring the game-winning touchdown against Iowa Oct. 23, 2010 (19 games), Ball has amassed 2,700 rushing yards and 54 total touchdowns. Yes, that’s 142.1 yards and 2.8 trips to the end zone per contest.
He went from being a third-string option to a Heisman finalist. He went from being a talented guy in a talented backfield to the best in the nation. He went from unknown to  having a legitimate NFL future.
But that will have to wait. He’s coming back for his senior year.  Lets hope next year he can win the heisman trophy.  GO BUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Badgers are ready for the Rose Bowl

Many times, football games are billed as potential shoot-outs and then fail to live up to the high-scoring hype.
That should not be a problem on Jan. 2 in Pasadena, Cal.
In Wisconsin and Oregon, the 98th edition of the Rose Bowl features two of the most prolific-and two of the most opposite-offenses in the country.
The No. 5 Ducks (8-1 Pac 12, 11-2 overall) employ a multitude of weapons predicated on speed, speed a breakneck pace and more speed.
"Their normal no huddle is very fast-paced, up tempo," UW head coach Bret Bielema said. "Then they have an extremely quick one where you can really see they've caught not only defenses but referees in difficult situations."
Bielema and defensive coordinator Chris Ash will likely have to decided whether to stay in the base 4-3 defense or play more nickel through the game. In the base, senior linebacker Kevin Claxton plays on the strong side, while freshman corner back Peniel Jean is the nickel corner. Bielema said the NCAA rules on substitutions should help Wisconsin.
"There is a rule in college football ... that if they sub you have an opportunity to sub as well," Bielema said. "You just have to make sure the officials are on the same page as you."
I know the Badgers are underdogs but let's hope they can beat the Ducks.  GO BUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Badgers head to the Rose Bowl

They’ve been there before. Last time it was a whole new world. Bright lights, walking among the stars — literally — and a whole new experience.
This time around, when it comes to the Rose Bowl on Jan. 2, the Wisconsin Badgers mean business.
“We’re going to take this trip and approach it more like a business trip and make sure we go in with our minds set and really go in remembering why we’re in L.A.,” junior running back Montee Ball said.
In the 98th Rose Bowl, Wisconsin will face the Pac-12’s Oregon Ducks.
Both the Badgers and Ducks played on big stages in last year’s bowl games, as Wisconsin played in the school’s first Rose Bowl in more than 10 years and Oregon took a shot in the BCS National Championship Game.
Both teams lost — Wisconsin to Texas Christian and Oregon to Auburn — and were forced to fight through another season just for a second chance at a coveted BCS title.
Wisconsin’s road to the Rose Bowl this year was not easy, nor exactly clear.
UW opened the season with a scalding offense led by transfer quarterback Russell Wilson, and through six games it looked like a possible national championship contender.
In the ensuing two weeks, back-to-back heartbreaking losses at Michigan State and Ohio State left Wisconsin in a tough position in the Big Ten and muddied the picture of any post-season hopes. Many things had to line up just right for the Badgers to even reach the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game, let alone the Rose Bowl.
UW ultimately avenged itself with a 42-39 win over MSU in Indianapolis, gaining another berth to The Granddaddy of Them All for the second consecutive year.
Let's hope they pull off another win in the Rose Bowl.  GO BUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Badgers Lose a Heartbreaker in Pasadena

After seven straight wins to close out the Big Ten season brought the red-hot Badgers to Pasadena, a talented TCU team got in the way of one final victory, handing Wisconsin a 21-19 defeat in a hard-fought battle in the Rose Bowl.
Despite junior running back John Clay's performance in a dramatic 77-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter, an unsuccessful two-point conversion proved to be the Badgers' undoing as they fell one play shy of Rose Bowl victory. All night long, UW avoided the big mistake as they have all year but didn't execute the little things, with that poor execution accounting for the close defeat.
Although they would falter later, on their first play from scrimmage the Badgers did not appear to show any rust from their five-week layoff between Saturday's game and their regular season finale. Sophomore running back Montee Ball bounced outside, bursting down the field for a 40-yard gain. But after a penalty on the next snap and a third-down drop by junior wide receiver Nick Toon, the Badgers stalled and were forced to settle for a 30-yard Philip Welch field goal.
The 3-0 lead didn't last long as the teams traded blows through the first quarter, which was the highest-scoring opening frame in Rose Bowl history. The Horned Frogs responded with their first touchdown drive, taking the 7-3 lead on a 23-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Andy Dalton to senior wide receiver Bart Johnson.
On the Badgers' next possession, Clay capped off the Wisconsin drive with a one-yard TD rush. Dalton countered with a rushing touchdown of his own, a four-yard conversion on third and goal, giving TCU a 14-10 lead after the first 15 minutes of the game.
"Third down stops were critical in the first half, and I don't think our defense got off the field on third down," head coach Bret Bielema said. "That was a big part of the game. Bottom line, two big pass, play action plays in the first half were critical.
"They were able to execute and we weren't."
The second quarter was perhaps the best execution of game plan by the Badgers all afternoon. After a long drive to start the quarter faded after Philip Welch missed a 39-yard field goal—his first miss under 40 this season—the defense responded by forcing TCU into a three-and-out.
The Wisconsin offense then rammed the ball down TCU's throat (with the help of a successful Brad Nortman fake punt conversion) running out the final 7:04 and finishing off the half with a 37-yard Welch field goal.
Despite controlling the ball for 13:30 in the second quarter alone, however, the Badgers trailed 14-13 at the half.
TCU went on perhaps its signature drive of the game to start the third quarter, completing a 71-yard drive that bumped the Horned Frogs' lead up to 8.
"We knew we had to take advantage of our opportunities because Wisconsin's got such a great run," Dalton said. "That's kind of the attitude we took in the second half. We have to take advantage, keep moving the ball."
For the next quarter of play, both teams put their "bend and don't break" philosophy on display, trading key third-down stops as each defense battled to keep the score where it was.
So the stage was set as the Badger offense took the field with 7:32 remaining in the game and the score still 21-13 in favor of TCU. A touchdown and 2-point conversion would tie the game, anything else and it would become desperation time.
After being quiet for much of the game, this final drive was a wakeup of sorts for Clay. Having gained just 12 yards on five carries coming through thre quarters, Clay led the Badgers on the final touchdown drive with six carries rushed for 59 yards, pushing him over 1000 yards for the season and setting the stage for sophomore running back Montee Ball's 4-yard TD run to put UW within two.
Despite having been successful at pounding the ball up the middle for much of the drive, Wisconsin chose to go out of the shotgun and attempt the two-point conversion through the air. Though Jacob Pederson was open in the end zone, TCU linebacker Tank Carder capped off his memorable Rose Bowl performance by batting down senior quarterback Scott Tolzien's pass attempt and putting TCU an onside kick away from victory.
"I felt real confident with the play call," Tolzien said. "It looked like man coverage with zero pressure. I thought we had a guy open. You give credit to them. They batted the ball down, and that's what good football teams do: They find a way to make plays when the game is on the line and they were able to do that."
In a game that saw Wisconsin out-gain TCU 385-301, the crucial details of execution proved the difference as drops, penalties and missed tackles surfaced more than they seemed to in the regular season.
"What got us here was clean execution and clean disciplined football, and we didn't do that today all around, myself included," Tolzien said. "That's why it's the greatest game, because you don't execute and you're on edges."
After a year that the Badger faithful will not soon forget, Saturday's defeat is tough to stomach for players, coaches, and fans alike. Still, the sting of defeat is accompanied by a burning desire to work even harder to get back on top.
"The Wisconsin Badgers will be back to the Rose Bowl," junior defensive end J.J. Watt said. "I don't know if it will be next year, but coach Bielema is an outstanding football coach. The Wisconsin football program does things the right way and Coach Alvarez leads the athletic department the right way. No doubt about it, the Badgers will be back.
"They'll be back better than ever. When they come back, they'll win."
Let's hope the Badgers can build on this season and return to Pasadena next year.  GO BUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
